Whereas the faculty of St. Xavier University are peacefully bargaining in good faith for fair wages and fair working conditions; and

Whereas it is the right of faculty to organize and collectively bargain for the benefit of the curriculum, student learning, and the health of the institution; and

Whereas the administration of St. Xavier University announced on May 28, 2020 that they would no longer recognize, or engage in collective bargaining with, the faculty union; and

Whereas the administration of St. Xavier University are actively working to bust the union and undercut shared governance within the university; and

Whereas many Moraine Valley students transfer to St. Xavier University; and

Whereas Moraine Valley Community College has a compact agreement to make it easy to transfer to St. Xavier University; and 

Whereas the health of St. Xavier University is important to the vitality of higher education of the South Suburbs of Chicago, therefore be it 

Resolved that the Moraine Valley Faculty Association calls on the university administration and the Sisters of Mercy to return to the table to bargain in good faith with the St. Xavier University Faculty; and be it finally 

Resolved that the Moraine Valley Faculty Association commits to supporting solidarity actions in support of the St. Xavier University Faculty, including:

  • Publicizing the struggles of the St. Xavier Faculty
  • Sharing information on solidarity actions and rallies with MVFA members
  • Making financial contributions where appropriate to support the actions of the St. Xavier University faculty.
