John Ronald Coleman, a trustee at Moraine Valley Community College, has died at the age of 88. John served two, six-year terms on the Moraine Valley Board of Trustees (2011-2017, 2017-2023). During his terms, he acted as chair for two years (2017-19) and vice chair for two years (2015-17). He also served on the Moraine Valley Foundation’s Board of Directors for 12 years, beginning in 2011.
John was a staunch supporter of the college. He and his late wife, Patricia, created many student scholarships and were annual sponsors of Foundation fundraising events that raised money for students. The couple also funded a contest to create an alma mater during the college’s 50th anniversary celebration. John attended almost every Moraine Valley function and fundraising event to which the Board of Trustees was invited. The college presented John with an honorary Associate of Applied Science Degree during the 2023 commencement.
Outside of his volunteer work at Moraine Valley Community College, John owned Enterprise A/C & Heating, a company he operated with his sons. He also was a proud member of the Burbank Lions Club, serving as Past District Governor of Dist. IA Lions (1995-96) and a retired member of the Board of Directors at Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind.
John is survived by his children John M. (Maria), Vince, Greg, Gary and Chris (Judy) Coleman; his grandchildren Lindsey (Kaleb) Clifton, and Mackenzie, Lucas and Jeremy Coleman; and his great granddaughter, Sage.
