Our suspicion and hope is that the crazy emails being sent to our faculty members will increase our turnout for the Local 1600 election. As more attack emails come to our MVCC work email accounts, we hope that they reveal the negativity and vitriol that have high jacked discussion with our Local. The MVFA officers have found this to be quite disturbing, which is why we are supporting the Edu1600 slate.
We were a bit surprised and disappointed at the email sent to our members over the weekend. This email attacked the leadership of the Moraine Valley Support Staff chapter (specifically targeting Lynn Doulas and Rose Sakanis). Instead of offering ideas for the future of Cook County Teachers Union (Local 1600), this email dips into nasty, accusatory politics. Again, they are pulling out trivialities, misinformation, and half-truths in a smear campaign.
We hope that these tactics work as a means to motivate our faculty to participate and take action in this election. We feel a little silly responding to each of these emails, but we also fear that our silence would be taken in the wrong way.
We fully stand with Rose and Lynn. We are saddened that they have been attacked. We hope that this is not the future of our union. We ask our members to support the Edu1600 slate.
